SITES - Smart IT Engineering and Services
The SITES group is a joint venture of two University of Girona (UdG) research groups: Control Engineering and intelligent systems (eXiT) and Broadband Communication and Distributed Systems (BCDS) with common research on Artificial Intelligence, and Machine Learning, and complementary applications in Broadband Communications, Technology Enhanced Learning, Medicine and Healthcare and Energy Systems.
The strategic alliance of both groups aims at strengthen their collaboration to become a reference research group in the basic research on artificial intelligence (machine learning, fault detection and decision support systems, and AI enhanced learning), both at the level of research and at the level of transfer. Specifically, it is intended to be a reference in two major technological fields:
– Smart cities: Urban resource management, energy, water, communication, IT education.
– Smart health: e-health, medical technologies, educational tools for people suffering some health condition.
Research group awarded by the Generalitat of Catalonia with quality labels since 1995 (2001/SGR/0029, 2005SGR 00296, SGR2009SGR0523, 2014SGR1052, SGR2017SGR1551).
Current label: 2021 SGR 01125
eXiT - Control Engineering and Intelligent Systems
The group has a solid background in digital transformation in health care (chronic diseases, neurological disorders, mental health) and energy (buildings and communities, power and water distribution systems, energy islands) domains, thanks to its participation in several national and European projects.
BCDS - Broadband Communications and Distributed Systems
The BCDS group is active in two main research areas: Broadband Network Control and Management and Technology Enhanced Learning. The group has led several long-term governmental projects involving other universities and companies like Internet Service Providers and Public Health Institutions. These projects, along with the basic research performed on the group, bring about many publications and contributions on international journals, symposiums and conferences.
